An enchanted moor landscape at unusual heights forms the prelude to the unique landscape along the Rur bank cycle path. Narrow river valleys lined with colourful sandstone rocks and densely wooded hills, follow. Idyllic old towns with romantic half-timbered houses. An impressive lake landscape with the second largest dam in Germany. And a river that flows right through it.
In only three days you can cycle through three countries and this dreamlike varied landscape. The RurUfer cycle path takes you over 160 kilometres from the High Fagnes in Belgium via the Eifel in Germany to Roermond in the Netherlands. We present the route on the Rur or Roer in this collection in three stages - a great bike tour for a short trip on a long weekend.
To get to the starting point of Signal de Botrange on the Hautes Fagnes in Belgium by bike, it is best to take the bicycle bus from Aachen. From the end of March to the end of October, it runs to Kalterherberg on Sundays and public holidays several times a day and once a day on Saturdays. From there it is about 13 kilometres by bike to the starting point of the Rur bank cycle path. If you do not want to cycle up the Hautes Fagnes, you can alternatively start the tour directly in Kalterherberg. From the destination in Roermond you can then simply take the train for the way back.
On the way from the source of the Rur in the Belgian high moor via the Eifel National Park to the mouth of the Meuse, you have plenty of opportunities to eat in cosy restaurants and cafés if required. The Eifel cycling paradise also has a lot to offer in terms of accommodation at the stage finishes and along the route. Many hosts look forward to touring cyclists and welcome you with their bike-friendly accommodations so that you can experience an unforgettably beautiful bike tour.
The Rur bank cycle path is recommended by the ADFC (German Cyclist's Association) and is ranked as a quality cycle route with four stars. More information (in German): adfc.de/artikel/radurlaub-als-sternstunde
