Tyrol's magnificent Gschnitztal valley provides the opportunity for some superb mountain hut day hikes. As opposed to a hut-to-hut trek, where you carry a heavy pack from one hut to another, the adventures in this Collection involve starting in the valley and hiking up to the mountain huts, before returning to ground level for the end of the day. You can expect beautiful mountain trails with awesome views and, of course, delicious dishes such as Gröstl (fried bacon, onion and potato), Kaspressknödel (cheese dumpling) and Kaiserschmarrn (fruit pancakes) await you in the huts.
The easiest route takes you to the cosy Trunahütte. On the hike to the Gschnitzer Tribulaunhütte, standing beneath impressive rock faces, you pretty much make it to the Italian border. The Bremer Hütte is located at the very head of the valley and is reached via a particularly picturesque ascent. The Innsbrucker Hütte is surrounded by a dramatic mountain backdrop on the ridge that separates the Gschnitztal from the Stubaital. The Blaser, on which the Blaserhütte awaits you, is the most flower-filled mountain in Tyrol and the Padasterjochhaus is Austria's oldest nature hut.
The routes are mainly on ‘red’ – moderately difficult – mountain trails. If you wish, you can extend your Tours and climb to a summit or two. The trails beyond the huts are often more challenging and may also be exposed, promising exciting alpine adventures.
The Tours extend up and out of the valley in all directions, allowing you to get to know the Gschnitztal from all sides. It’s one of those Austrian mountaineering villages that’s characterised by its unspoilt nature. Here, you can hike in harmony with the natural world, enjoying the mountains, the exercise and a delicious meal with a fantastic view.
